Why it matters

Screen readers pick a voice and pronunciation from the lang attribute. An invalid code can make a page read with the wrong accent or language (WCAG 3.1.1).

How to fix it

1. Use a valid BCP 47 code such as en, en-GB, fr, de or pt-BR on the <html> element.
