About the Keyword Density Checker
Keyword density is the percentage of words on a page that are a given word or phrase. It used to be a ranking obsession; today search engines understand topics and synonyms, so there is no ideal density to hit. It is still a useful diagnostic: it shows what a page is really about in practice, reveals accidental keyword stuffing and highlights when a page barely mentions the topic it is supposed to rank for.
Enter a URL or paste your copy to see the most frequent single words and two- and three-word phrases (with common stop words removed). Add a focus keyword to see how often it appears and whether it is in the title, H1, description, URL and introduction.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best keyword density?
There isn’t one. Write naturally for readers and cover the topic thoroughly. If one phrase is above roughly 3% the text often reads as repetitive.
Is keyword stuffing penalised?
Yes. Google’s spam policies specifically list keyword stuffing, and it makes content worse for readers.
Why are some common words missing?
Stop words like “the”, “and” and “of” are removed so the meaningful terms stand out.
