Redirects
Why it matters
Each redirect adds a round trip before the page loads, and long chains can lose signals or stop crawlers.
How to fix it
- Link directly to the final URL instead of a redirecting one.
- Collapse chains so every old URL redirects in one step.
- Use 301 for permanent moves and 302 only for temporary ones.
Check it with
- Redirect Checker – Trace every hop of a redirect chain with status codes and timings.
Scoring: a passed check earns its full weight, a warning half and an error none. How the SEO score works
