Image Compressor & WebP Converter
Compress JPG, PNG and WebP images and convert them to WebP or AVIF – in your browser.
About the Image Compressor & WebP Converter
Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page, and large images are the most common reason for a slow Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), the Core Web Vital Google uses to measure loading speed. Most photos straight from a camera or phone are several megabytes; on a website they rarely need to be more than 100–300 KB.
This compressor shrinks your images and converts them to WebP (about 25–35% smaller than JPEG at the same quality, supported by every modern browser) or AVIF (smaller still). You can also resize them to a sensible maximum width, and hidden photo metadata such as camera details and GPS location is removed automatically. Everything happens in your browser: your images are never uploaded to our server, so it is fast and private. Drop in up to 30 images at once, compare the before and after sizes, and download them one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I use?
WebP for almost everything: it is much smaller than JPEG and PNG and works in all current browsers. AVIF is smaller again but takes longer to create and is not supported by some older devices. Use PNG only for graphics that must stay pixel-perfect.
What quality setting is best?
80% is a good balance: the difference from the original is very hard to see, and files are often 60–80% smaller. Use 90% for photography portfolios and 70% for thumbnails.
How wide should website images be?
Rarely wider than they are shown. 1920 px is enough for full-width banners, 1200 px for images inside an article and 400–800 px for thumbnails and cards.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The images are processed by your own browser and never leave your device.
